IMPORTANT GUIDELINES
- All instructions and decisions are taken by the Executive Principal of the School or, in her absence, her designated staff member, or an individual listed as an authority (see above).
- The authority will engage the BV Whatsapp Community Announcements chat and instructions placed there should be followed directly.
- Staff who have children off site (tennis, golf, EAGALA etc) must heed alerts delivered and comply with the instructions.
- Parents are to please take note that staff are expected to keep students, so far as this is reasonably possible, under shelter during the period that the lightning alarm siren is active. Please do not put them in a position so as to deny their obligations.
- Any parents who so choose to go against this procedure and to remove their child from a safe zone do so at their own risk and assume responsibility for their actions.
- Failure to comply with this procedure by any employee or registered student of Bellavista School may result in disciplinary action.
- Taking shelter applies to adults as much as to the children.
MOVEMENT AND SITUATION SPECIFIC PROCEDURES
- All equipment and bags must be left on the field or in the open area and only collected when instructed by one of the authorities.
- Children and staff in the school building must remain indoors, within the confines of the room; i.e. no balconies or corrid
Early Mornings:
- Classrooms must be open as soon as teachers arrive at school.
- Children to be inside the classrooms with teacher and Gr7 monitors present until the start of the school day.
- If it starts to rain or lightning alerts before line up, children go to class rooms
- If lightning alert is on before the start of school, parents will be notified per Whatsapp to keep their child until the all
Lighting Alert during Sport or Homework Class:
- Therapists and coaches are expected to assist teachers in these measures.
- If lightning alert is on before the start of sport, children and class teachers remain in their register classrooms until the all clear signal.
- If the all clear signal has gone before 14h15, children can go to their different sports.
- If the all clear signal hasn’t gone by 14h30, children will stay in the classroom until the end of day (15h00).
- If lightning alert goes off during sport, the groups from the field must go to the main building and, under corridor cover, to their register classrooms.
- All class teachers onsite should also go to their register classrooms to be there in case the children are sent back earlier when the all clear signal has gone and there isn’t enough time for sport to continue.
- If the all clear signal sounds before 14h15, children can go back to the field until the end of sport.
- If the ‘all clear signal’ hasn’t gone by 14h30, children will remain in the register classrooms until the end of the day.
- From here, they will be released if their parents come to the venue to collect or as per further instruction from the Executive Principal or her designated staff member.
- If children are in Homework Class, all protocols apply.
- The Homework Class supervisors (external) will undertake to stay with the children.
General Home Time
If lightning alert is on within 30 minutes of dismissal from school, children and teachers to remain in register classrooms until all clear signal or instruction from the Executive Principal or her delegate,
- Gate dismissal under Lightning Alert
- GrR parents drive in to collect at the classroom venue.
- Gr1-3 leave out of St Andrews at designated home time.
- Gr4 leave out of Venus Street at 14h30
- Gr5 leave out of Venus Street at 14h45
- Gr6-7 leave out of Venus Street at 15h00
- Staggered Times
- At the discretion of the Executive Principal or her delegate, parents may be advised of a minimum of one hour stagger to the close of the school time.
- Updates will be issued to parents +/- every 30 minutes after that; for example: Lightning alert at 13h20 – parents to return at 14h20/ Lightning alert at 13h45 - parents to return at 14h45.
